In January 2007, my friend Eric Nakagawa started a cat humor blog named ‘I can has cheez burger?’ for fun. The website mysteriously went viral and by March the website was getting tens of thousands of visitors per day. This was around the time he asked me to design a logo for ICHC. Another few months go by and Icanhascheezburger.com was getting up to 1.5 million hits per day. In September of the same year Eric sold the website to Ben Huh and a group of investors for $2 million dollars. Ben later built up an internet humor publishing company called the Cheezburger Network which raised $30 million dollars in VC funding.
"Traffic to the Cheezburger blog has ballooned over the last three years, encouraging Mr. Huh to expand his unlikely Web empire to include 53 sites, all fueled by submissions from readers. In May, what is now known as the Cheezburger Network attracted a record 16 million unique visitors, according to the Web analytics firm Quantcast."
